Tourniquet Myths: TQs Don't Work On Two Bone Compartments

One of the myths out there is that tourniquets don't work on two bone compartments. Part of that myth is because there's an artery that runs between the two bones, the tibia and the fibula. People think that the tourniquet is not going to be able to compress and stop bleeding. Well, what we've done is we've perfused this cadaver so we can actually see bleeding going on in real-time coming through here.

And then as we tighten up this tourniquet, we're going to see that it stops some of the outer vessels, and then eventually goes around and applies enough pressure through this tissue here that it comes in and it compresses the inner artery. So now we've got hemostasis at all three arteries running through.
